Parenting Anxiety, Together

A course for parents/caregivers that will help our kids.

Daily practice:

  • 5 minutes with my child of non-corrective, engaged interaction daily.

  • 5 minutes of writing (worksheet or journal reflections and observations).

  • one self-compassion practice.

  • celebrate a win.

You can find the syllabus, worksheets, and videos in this section. To start, let’s highlight the four pillars of parenting we will focus on, together.

❋ Self-compassion

Self-compassion is treating ourselves with warmth and kindness. Kristen Neff and Chris Germer are two pioneering researchers in self-compassion who defined it as having three components: mindfulness, self-compassion, and common humanity. Find the self-compassion rating scale here.

❋ Nervous system science

Anxiety involves an exaggerated fear response and a heightened state of activation. Learning about anxiety with a nervous system lens can allow for growth when we learn the tools of awareness and ways to down-regulate our nervous system.

Communication

Our words are only one part of how we communicate our thoughts and feelings. In this pillar, we will examine ways to cue safety through words and non-verbal methods of communication.

❋ Resilience

Anxiety involves facing our fears and building resilience. In this pillar, we focus on expanding capacity to stay regulated. Contrary to common assumption, resilience is not a genetic trait. It can be cultivated and learned.
